    Most of us across the world are familiar with Google. It is a known search engine without a doubt mostly preferred. Google occupies more than 90% of the internet's search market in 2022. Google was released in the year of 1998, fourth day of September. Just after 25 months (2years, 1month) of its launch Google started i.e. 23, Oct, 2000 it started advertising services which is basically a search text ad on the name of 'AdWords'. Google AdWords later rebranded as 'Google Ads' as its present name.

    In 2004 Google launched Gmail initiating their product expansion, in 2006 Google owned YouTube so on which still continues. It also develops distinguished ad services by which wide diversity of campaigns on its range of products can be run. Lets discuss about platforms on which Google offers advertisers to advertise since it's protagonist of this page.

    Out of its 270+ products and services, Google search, Maps, YouTube (YT Kids & YT Music also), Google Play, Gmail are Google's own platforms on which ads can be run using Google Ads. It also supports different types of ads allowing to customize the campaign goal depending on the business requirement. For each goal and each platform mean multiple ad formats can be created. Now it's time to discuss how different ad formats will be displayed on Google's different products.

Types of ad models:

    Google ads has three types of ad models based on which the advertiser will be charged. They are pay per click, pay per impression, pay per acquisition. Great thing about these models are billing will be done for the results only and these models are same for all ad formats on all of its platforms.

  • Pay-Per-Click: In PPC model ads will be charged when they are only clicked upon display.
  • Pay-Per-Impression: In this PPM model amount will be deducted for each impression. Here one impression means 1000 times viewed on search. It is best for 'Branding advertisements'.
  • Pay-Per-Acquisition: PPA is conversion based ad strategy, where charges are applied for every tracked conversions. This means advertiser needs to pay for each acquired customer.    

Search:

    Search is a search engine which is Google's first ever platform. It is also mostly famous for its search engine over its other products. When a search is queried on Google, results are delivered on its SERP (Search Engine Results Page) in 'text' form which all of us regularly observe. Usually, present day the first SERP will be combination on carousel, map listings, knowledge graph, videos, images, where text results occupies most of the results.

    SERP is where ads are placed on Google Search. Ads listed probably will be catered top place on SERP depending on its ad quality. Text ads and Shopping ads (carousel) formats are mostly run on Search. Each ad will be marked as 'AD' on the left as in the above sample images. Sometimes for shopping ads 'shopping' tag is displayed with products carousel.

    Search ads are simple and limited with these two formats only to which addition extensions can be added. Extension type depends on results to be achieved.

Maps:

    Google Maps comes in handy while searching for an unknown location, directions and what a place can offer. That place can also be a business. Maps is also widely admired Google's product. It provides complete details of a location mapped on it from a business type to its contact details.

    A location listed at the bottom of the map listings can also be placed top as in above sample image for ad placement on Maps with Google Ads. Ads placed on Google Maps are also visible on Google SERP as it lists map listings also. Location extension can also be added to Search-text ads by linking Maps and Google Ads.

    Advertising on Maps also adds additional benefit of customers credibility. Locations on Maps are offline addresses, this is why their are higher chances of conversions.

YouTube:

    YouTube is a video streaming platform which requires no introduction. It is a video platform where anyone with can upload and watch any number of videos. YouTube also have different versions for kids, music lovers and TV named 'YouTube Kids,' 'YouTube Music' and 'YouTube TV' respectively and 'YouTube Shorts' is its short video platform.

Skippable Videos:

    While surfing a video on YouTube free version, we regularly face these ads. Skippable video ads are 30 second videos which can be skipped. These ads intrude playing videos and do their work.

    After launching 'YouTube Shorts', YouTube integrated ads with Shorts, so that regular YouTube ads will also be displayed on YouTube Shorts reaching more audience. This is how ads on Shorts are displayed which can be run by Google Ads.

Gmail:

    By selecting 'Discovery' while creating campaign ads can be run on Gmail. Ads on Gmail are expandable ads. Gmail has sponsored tab where targeted 'Gmail Ads' are present. When your Gmail receive an ad sponsored tab will appear temporarily on Primary.

    Along with their own platforms used by millions of people everyday, Google's AdSense and AdMob has its third party network on which Google Ads campaigns can be run. AdSense supports web developers while AdMob supports mobile applications. Websites and application allowing Google to advertise on their platform come under Google Ad network. With these two one can monetize their website and mobile application.

Top-middle, Right side and Left side closed banners around website content is a Display Ad campaign running with the help of Google Ads. That particular website signed up with AdSense and is a part of 'Google Ad Network'.

    With these wide range of platforms and ad formats an advertiser can market to millions in a creative approach using 'Google Ads'. This is also the same reason why many businesses Digital Marketing go to tool is Google's self-service interface 'Google Ads'.
